Clontarf Castle is a luxurious hotel with spectacular surroundings. While you’ll never run out of things to do in Clontarf, even the most avid Golfers will enjoy our romantic ideas for when you’re staying here.
Here are just some of the activities you can enjoy while at Clontarf Castle:
Romantic meal in Fahrenheit Restaurant
Fahrenheit Restaurant offers a dining experience like no other. Set in the original 12th century castle walls, Fahrenheit Restaurant has a majestic atmosphere with striking wooden beams, stained glass windows and panelled walls, allowing for reflection on bygone days.
Head Chef Paul Devoy creates incredible dishes that rival any michelin star experience. This menu has an extensive range of delicious food options along with a bolstering wine list and for this reason it has been awarded 2 AA Rosette Restaurant status.
Looking for the perfect gift idea? We have a valentines day hotel deal fit for a King and Queen.
Allow us to be part of your Fairy-tale. Let Clontarf Castle spark romance in your life in Dublin’s only Castle by the Sea. Enjoy a romantic break with our Castle Fairy-tale Valentines Hotel Package which includes:
The romantic dinner in Fahrenheit, an overnight stay in one of our deluxe rooms, with a Box of Chocolates and a bottle of Prosecco awaiting your arrival in the room. Enjoy an Irish Breakfast in bed, and spend the day doing some of our romantic recommendations!
Enjoy a walk along Dollymount Beach & Bull Island
At the end of the promenade, across the Wooden Bridge, is Bull Island. Enjoy an unrivalled view of Dublin Bay and the iconic Poolbeg Chimneys before you reach the sea. There, you’ll find Dollymount Strand’s 5km stretch of sand dunes and beach. The surrounding island is a nature reserve and the beach is a popular spot for a stroll as well as sea-swimmers and kite-surfers.
Just before you reach Dollymount Beach, you’ll find Happy Out Cafe where you can get a delicious coffee or a tasty toasty to warm you up as walk along Dollymount Beach. Dollymount is a great romantic escape from the city, but wrap up, as it gets windy along here!
Walk Through the Rose Gardens in St. Anne’s Park
Planted in 1974, The Rose Garden at St. Anne’s Park has become a popular spot for couples to stroll around or to sit and talk. The roses are at their peak from June till September with the annual Rose Festival taking place in July.
On Saturday, You can search the stalls for a treat at the food market, while Olive’s Room at the Red Stables is the place for takeaway coffee or enjoy local whole foods, freshly baked treats and a delicious lunch menu all week.
Post dinner Wine & Cheese Board in Surge 56
This beloved coffee shop is turning coffee into wine, three nights a week. Serving up beautiful charcuterie and cheese boards alongside a wonderful selection of wines; Surge 56 is a great place to unwind and catch up this Valentine’s Day.
Valentines day meals are not for everybody, so something a little more casual is on offer from Surge 56.
Take in a show at the Viking Theatre
Located above Connolly’s The Sheds, this gem of a theatre has made a major cultural impact not only in Dublin but nationwide, with audience members travelling from all parts of Ireland to see top quality performances.
The Viking Theatre is welcoming The Empty Nest back in February after a sell-out run in November. All seats are priced at €20, with performances nightly Monday to Saturday.
A night at the theatre is one of the finest valentine gift ideas there is. It pairs a bit of luxury with the casual atmosphere by night time at the Viking theatre. Have a pint or glass of wine, maybe even a delicious cocktail in the sheds after the show, and occasionally there will be live music in the lounge.
Further Afield
Once you’ve ticked off the various things to do in Clontarf, why not head further afield, where you’ll find many of the most interesting places to visit in Dublin.
From tourist favourites, like the Guinness Storehouse and the Phoenix Park, to mighty museums, like EPIC and Dublinia, there’s plenty to keep you occupied.
Love Lane, Temple Bar
Name a more romantic thing to do in Dublin than taking a walk through an alleyway called Love Lane.
Love Lane used to be a dirty little laneway that people tended to avoid, but after an initiative set up by Dublin City Council in 2014 called “Love The Lanes,” it was cleaned up and transformed into an open-air gallery filled with adorable murals, lyrics of romantic songs, and quotes about love. You can find Love Lane at Crampton Court in Temple Bar.
There is tonnes of street art murals on love lane, including a section with iconic one line inspirations. The lane leads to Essex St, which is home to some of the coolest places within Temple Bar, a perfect place to spend some time while waiting on your next stop.
Vintage Tea Bus
All Aboard… This vintage bus from the 60s serves afternoon tea aboard one of the most intricately decorated busses in the city.
Kick back with your partner and take delight in consuming some fine Irish tea along with some freshly made sandwiches and scones on this converted 1960’s double-decker bus. Enjoy scrumptious treats while you pass some Dublin’s popular attractions.
Botanic Garden
Just 15 minutes away are the colourful Botanic Gardens with over 15,000 plant species. Free to enter, the Gardens is home to over 300 endangered plant species, 6 of which are already extinct in the wild.
The jewel in the Gardens’ crown is a set of exquisitely restored and planted historic glasshouses. A romantic valentines walk through the gardens is a nice substitute to the hotel garden.
A day trip to Howth
Located less than 20 minutes from the hotel, Howth always comes up on a list of days out for couples. There are plenty of fun things to do out that way, from taking on the cliff walks to admiring the ships in the harbour. The Cliff Walk’s Green and Blue routes can be intertwined on one walk, or revisit to have two unique trips on this cliff walk.
Don’t forget to enjoy a bit of fresh fish and chips! Eat like a local on the wall around the green or enjoy lunch in one of the many delectable restaurants.
Escape Boat
Looking to try something a little different? On Dublin’s Escape Boat, You’ll have 60 minutes to crack the code or else may end up stuck on the ship while it sails away for the foreseeable future (although, some couples might like the idea of that). I think you may want to come back to the Castle for Signature Cocktails in the Knights bar… but hey!
If you want to try an adventure filled escape time challenge, then Escape Boats
